Last weekend, over 50,000 runners flooded the streets of New York City to run the 2023 New York City Marathon.

If you tuned in to the TV coverage, you got to see a tight, tactical race on the women’s side and a new course record on the men’s side. If you were one of the runners, then you got to enjoy some pretty good running weather.

Comparing last year’s race to this year’s race is like night and day. Last year, it was hot and humid, and people struggled to the finish. This year, people actually looked happy in their race photos.

So how does this year’s New York City Marathon stack up against previous years? Let’s dive into some data and see.

Note: These results were collected on Monday, November 6. The numbers may vary slightly as results were finalized.
