About two weeks ago, there was a little running event in England — the 2024 London Marathon. You may have heard about it.

Over 50,000 runners hit the streets of London and finished the race. The marathon is consistently one of the largest in the world, and that continues to be true this year.

Given the timing — I’m in New Jersey and didn’t want to wake up at 5 am — I didn’t catch the race live. But I did hear plenty about it afterwards and see some of the highlights.

The race made news because the women set a new world record for the women’s only marathon. Although a few women have run a faster time in a marathon race, they’ve only done so with the assistance of male pacers.

Last week, I published an overview of the history of the London Marathon — based on an analysis of twenty years of results.
