The long-run is the key workout in a marathon training plan. Most training plans have runners doing a long run each week until they reach between 20 and 22 miles or so. These runs are usually done at an easy pace though occasionally a plan will call for a fast-finish long run where you run at marathon pace for the last quarter of the long run.
