You won’t have to wake up at 4 am.

Your friend will not drive you to the start line in the dark.

You won’t stand in long lines at the bathrooms.

You will not feel the familiar nerves and excitement at the start line.

You won’t have to worry about the adrenaline making you start off too fast and blowing up your pace.

You won’t sign up six months in advance and carefully plan your training.

You won’t have to pay extra for the Strava insights to see if you’re overtraining or undertraining.

You won’t need to spend $250 on a pair of magical racing shoes to take 4% off your PR.

You won’t have to negotiate with your spouse about when you will fit in a 22-mile training run.

You won’t have to feel guilt about a 22-mile run.

You won’t have to decide if you should back off or train through the nagging injuries and lingering fatigue in the middle of the training plan.

You won’t have to plan for race day weather and start obsessively checking the forecast 10 days in advance.

You won’t have to pack your bags and plan your gear and carefully affix the number on your shirt the night before.
