Why I Sometimes Procrastinate with Running

How I overcome procrastination and still get out the door

Running has always been an activity I enjoy and know is good. Though I run every day, like everyone else, I still sometimes struggle to get out the door and get started. Despite having a closet full of running gear, playlists curated, and audiobooks ready for the perfect jog, it still can be hard to find reasons to get out to hit the pavement. If you’re like me, or any other normal human, you probably also have a mental list of excuses that can delay or prevent you from starting your workout.

Here are some of the most frequent reasons I find causing me to procrastinate with running and how I’ve learned to overcome them.

Excuse 1: “I’m Too Tired”

One of the most common excuses I find when it comes to running is feeling too tired. After a long day at work or a restless night of sleep, sometimes the last thing I want to do is expend more energy. The thought of running feels less appealing and more like an insurmountable task that must be checked off of a never-ending “to-do” list.
