Just like in any sport, many athletes create goals in order to push themselves and eventually get better. Whether it be a huge goal or maybe even a tiny goal that can keep growing as you get become a stronger athlete. In my case, goals play a significant role in track. Every race I run, I strive to beat my time I had the last race. Also known as a PR, (personal record). At the beginning of the season, it may be difficult to determine your goals right away. Only because you may not know what you are fully capable of yet. However, it is very important to keep these goals realistic. For example, if you run a 64 second 400 meter dash at one meet, and then go into the next meet wanting to push for a 59 second race, it will be a challenge. Keeping goals realistic will push you to achieve them and when you do, you will get that extra boost of confidence. Reasonable goals will help you be like “Okay, yeah, I can definitely do this!” That’s why it’s crucial to keep goals practical. Say you set a target that will be a very exhausting one and then you end up failing. That feeling after failure will then make you think you aren’t good enough. So keep these goals sensible. Then you can work your way up as you accomplish other goals. Just always remember, never give up and keep trying.
