Drone Pilot Jeff McLain and Montana State Park Ranger Alice

This post was long delayed due to me and my wife’s recent traveling.

We were approved and flew the first drone in the Madison Buffalo Jump! In March the Friends of Madison Buffalo Jump was able schedule a professional photographer Jeff McClain and a Montana park ranger to take some test footage at the buffalo jump. It was probably more exciting than necessary: Jeff lost a propeller blade.

Setting up the GoPros and drone

We started at 3 pm in anticipation of the evening magic hour, where the setting sun illuminates the grand eastern face of the buffalo jump. We then hiked a couple of miles to the top where we discovered high wind conditions. Not easily dissuaded, we found a quiet corner of the plateau and Jeff shot about 15 minutes of excellent footage; meanwhile I collected more panoramas for to make 3D stereoscope still imagery of the jump.

Jeff adventurously filmed the western face of the buffalo jump before we ran out of sun and ran off to cook dinner in Missoula.
