Taking a stroll through the Old Town & The New Town

All smiles in Vilnius! View from St. John's Cathedral.

Old Town Vilnius

On the photograph on the left is the view from St. John's church, overlooking the buildings in Vilnius. I promise that climbing those 193 stairs will be worth the view!

Tip: inside the building is also a (very cool!) Foucault pendulum, which intrigued everyone in the group. It's worth checking out!

The picture on the above was taken at St. John's Cathedral's observatory. I promise that climbing those 193 steps will be worth the view on the top!

Fun fact: In Lithuania, if you do well in school, the government grants you a full-tuition scholarship for university, as to give importance to education and encourage hard work. This method is definitely effective, seeing as it makes education affordable, accessible, and results in high employability rates in the country!

Pro tip: there is a restaurant really close by called "Charlie's" which, despite the American name, serves a wide variety of international cuisine, including local Lithuanian dishes. They have low prices (and accept ISIC student cards for additional discounts!), are in a great part of town, and have tasty food. It's a good lunch spot!

One of the highlights from the New Town was visiting the castle of the first Grand Duke of Lithuania, Gediminas. Despite it being a very old building (constructed in 1409), it is located right by the newer part of Vilnius and overlooks the river and the modern Financial District. The view from the top of the observatory is awesome!

New Town Vilnius

Visiting Old Town Vilnius may give off the impression that the entire city is old and replete with antique architecture and monuments. Yet, our visit to the New Town proved just the opposite: there are skyscrapers with names of large multinational corporations, such as Huawei, PwC, Radisson, and Suzuki, among other giants.

Walking around Vilnius — 100 different shades of green.
Group bonding and fun by River Neris!

One of the features that most intrigued me about Vilnius is how much green there is in the middle of town. Walking around the city, you are bound to pass by several different parks and find hundreds of shades of green, each adding to the beauty and charm of Vilnius.

At the end of the day, my friends and I decided to watch the sunset over the River Neris. We crossed the bridge and found a few chairs on a deck overlooking the river. It was the perfect spot to admire the beauty of the city and order some typical Lithuanian snacks.

Extra: A MUST-DO visit in Vilnius is to the Museum of Illusions.

Here are some of my highlights from my visit:
