This past spring semester, our previous Projects Director (and now co-president) Monica led another Creative Labs cohort into creating their own case studies or redesigns. Here are some of the impressive and exciting new ideas they came up with!

Again — if this seems like something you would be interested in and if you want a project to add to your portfolio, keep your eye out for the cohort coming in the fall!

1. smartchoice — Team DashJ Fridge

Why?

This team noticed that, as college students, eating healthy in a sustainable manner can be a struggle. This can be due to:

  • Difficulty tracking nutritious food in the fridge
  • Keeping food wastage down
  • Too much food in the fridge in general
  • Finding the time to make healthy food

How?

  • Make groceries and nutritious food more accessible
  • Find recipes with current food items
  • Keep better track of items and expiration dates

2. Pinterest — Team Concept Squad

Why?

Pinterest is a popular site where people create boards for inspiration for reference, inspiring creativity and different ideas. Despite this, the boards can be very tedious and time consuming, especially due to problems such as:

  • No way to turn off Auto-Refresh
  • Manually reorganizing images one by one on the sorting board
  • Hidden organizational features
  • Having to scroll down boards to see old pins
Low-fidelity prototypes

How?

  • Sorting options to reorganize the board (ex: newest-oldest)
  • Ability to turn on and off Auto Refresh
  • Options to customize browsing experience

3. Uniqlo — Team Bryhan, Michelle, Darren & Maytar

Why?

Uniqlo, a very popular retail store, is notoriously known for its poor app design. It has the site design constrained by a smartphone’s dimensions, making the app unfamiliar and difficult to navigate for users. Ultimately, this has the effect of turning users away from the platform.

How?

  • Simplification of the home screen to only emphasize the most essential functions
  • Using and adjusting widgets to support navigation
  • Adding basic functions, like a wishlist and shopping cart
Low and high fidelity prototypes

Final Design!
