I Hope It Rains

It’s just about 9 days before 2016 ends and I’m feeling kind of stoic. On one side I feel as if I have made the most out of the year and on the other, I feel incomplete and unsatisfied.

So, I’d rather it rain.

Because when it rains, it’s cool. There’s this homey feeling of solitude. When it rains, I get my warm cuppa ready and prepare my room as I embark on this yearned solo journey to whatever novel I’d face.

Rainy days got boring in the digital era, but if you are an old soul just like me, you would enjoy this rain together with that smell of paper from the book in your hand.

Rainy days are perfect if you’re staying at home. I hate it when I’m outside and it’s raining. It is a little bit of a hassle to navigate through the muddy roads and commute. The subway is not also ideal if you have to squeeze yourself in together with the other people who got caught up in the rain.

But, since I’m at home today. I’d rather it rain.

The year has been a crossroads for me. I have found out about my greatest weaknesses and my most illusive strengths. They say the bigger your problems, the better you are because you will not be faced with these conundrums if you do not have the ability to solve them.

But that might not be all true because this year, I have faced situations that are out of my league, so to say. The year is ending and I haven’t even solved most of them.

I am not loathing in self-pity nor in the agony of my failures. Quite the opposite. I am sitting here just savoring the moment of indecisiveness, knowing that one of these days (soon), I would get up and pick all of the pieces from scratch.

Rainy days remind me that there are seasons of PAUSING. There are moments in our lives where we are not supposed to hustle or rest. There are these tiny little moments where we do not have to do anything, but stand still and be present.

No waiting. No worrying. No trying to change the world.

Just. Be.

These are the moments where you just have to enjoy who you are, who you’ve become and just cherish.

This tranquil season is very hard to capture in our finite lifetime. Most of us do not even recognize it’s there.

State of confusion and solitude are actually beautiful moments of tragedy. This might seem unpractical, but it is necessary.

For our growth.

For our soul.

These are the exact scenarios when you feel lost; when you’ve given it you all, but you still do not know what to do. It’s the season of rain.

But, that’s what rain does.

When it rains, you do not go up the tree and shout to the clouds for it to stop. When it rains, you would not cover the pavement just so the rain doesn’t drop on the floor. When it rains, you don’t fight it. You let it do its job because you know it has a purpose.

In agriculture, rain is responsible for the crops’ growth. It balances our ecosystem and it replenishes water resource.

The rainy seasons in our lives does the same.

It’s just a season so you don’t need to control it.

When the rain falls, you can bring an umbrella, play outside or just stay at home with your cuppa.

Whatever it is that you do when it rains, there is one thing that’s sure: you don’t fight it. You just let it be.

Because you know even if it’s just a shimmer of raindrops or a massive, treacherous storm with thunder and lightning, it will pass.

Rains are not meant to last forever. Some rainy seasons might take a long time, but they end.

I want it to rain because I know what rain does.

And I want it to rain because I know what happens after it comes.

The clouds part and the sun shines. The rainbow arises and it reminds you that you’ve done a good job of just letting it be. The heat and the cold collides and then you wake up with rejuvenation.

This time, you are ready to take on the world again.

Nine full days before the year ends. It’s still raining on my end, but I know it will end soon. I know it will end before the dawn of 2017.

I may face bigger challenges next year. I may fail at the problems I have yet to solve, but I will not lose this chance to feel the rain. For today, I will sit here with my cuppa and learn all about life with Paulo Choelho and let him bring me in his journey in Milan.
