Asthma is a long-term disease that affects your respiratory tract. It has symptoms like chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing. Although there are lots of treatments for asthma, herbal tea also may reduce symptoms.

Here are 5 teas for relieving asthma symptoms.

  1. Green tea

Green tea is probably one of the most popular herbal teas. It comes from the plant Camellia sinensis. Green tea contains antioxidants, which may help for reducing inflammation in the respiratory tract. In addition, Green tea also contains caffeine, which may help relax airways.

2. Black tea

Black tea is another well-known tea. It comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, like green tea. one of the differences between green tea and black tea is black tea exposed to air for oxidation. It is why the leaves turn a brownish color. Black tea has caffeine in it, which may help relax the respiratory tract and reduce heart disorder and diabetes risk.

3. Ginger tea

Ginger tea is another famous tea. It contains bioactive compounds, such as gingerols and shogaols. It helps to reduce respiratory inflammation, nausea relief. It also helps to relieve symptoms by opening constricted airways.

4. Eucalyptus tea

Eucalyptus tea comes from the eucalyptus tree. It contains potent antioxidants and eucalyptol. Eucalyptol may decrease mucus secretion, cough frequency, stretch bronchioles, and reduce inflammation.

5. Licorice tea

Licorice tea comes from the licorice plant. Licorice root has been used to treat several diseases such as asthma in traditional medicine. Licorice root helps to loosen thick mucus by a warming sensation. In animal studies, Glycyrrhizin, an extract of the licorice, reduces asthma symptoms, especially combined with albuterol.

In summary, Reduce respiratory tract inflammation, relax the airways, loosen thick mucus, and enhance breath are some benefits of the herbal teas we discussed above. These herbal teas must be used with medication and can’t be used to replace asthma medicine.
