An Open Letter to Congress
Get your act together, people are suffering.
Whenever I think about Congress, almost immediately negative emotions prevail. The most common things I associate Congress with include; stepping on a rusty nail; getting into a car accident; or being diagnosed with cancer. There is nothing pretty about the dysfunctional representation we have. Millions of people are suffering right now and Congress is dragging their feet. I already know what the excuse is going to be from both sides, and so do you. Excuses from our elected officials are becoming increasingly dangerous. I say this because millions of people are unemployed, unable to put food on the table, pay rent or mortgage, and inevitably, this means economic destruction is on the horizon. It can be avoided, yet weakness in our leaders shows they want to hurt people.
Back in 2013, BuzzFeed News posted “12 Awful Things More Popular Than Congress.” Sit back for a moment, because the top two are: 1. Root Canals; 2. Head lice.
Root Canals and Head lice are more popular than Congress. Let that sink in for a minute.
Congressional Representatives need to get those big egos and heads out of each others’ asses and do their damn jobs. With the onslaught of evictions to come, how are you going to sleep at night knowing it is your fault families will be living on the streets?
The immaturity from our Congressional Representatives could not be more adolescent. It is frustrating because they are living in a different world right now, and do not fully understand the struggles of everyday people. Most of them slide to re-election year after year with no challenger and make a generous $174,000 per year. Congressional Representative's annual salary is over 70% higher than the average annual wages for the rest of us. Put a different way, they make over $3,000 per week while arguing over providing $600 in much needed weekly unemployment assistance.
It is pretty clear that career politicians are not the solution to our problems. Career politicians are the problem.
All of you in Congress should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. Your blatant disregard for the American people is disgusting. How dare you continue drawing a paycheck while millions of Americans are suffering. I just wrapped up a campaign for public office and heard so many heartbreaking stories from residents in my own district. Instead of riding the gravy train for another term in office, DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING!
