“Now Sauron’s lust and pride increased, until he knew no bounds, and he determined to make himself master of all things in Middle-earth, and to destroy the Elves, and to compass if he might, the downfall of Númenor. He brooked no freedom nor any rivalry, and he named himself Lord of the Earth. A mask he still could wear so that if he wished he might deceive the eyes of Men, seeming to them wise and fair. But he ruled rather by force and fear, if they might avail; and those who perceived his shadow spreading over the world called him the Dark Lord and named him the Enemy; and he gathered under his government all the evil things of the days of Morgoth that remained on earth or beneath it; and the Orcs were at his command and multiplied like flies.” — The Silmarillion, “Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age"

Necromancy : conjuration (see CONJURE sense 2a) of the spirits of the dead for purposes of magically revealing the future or influencing the course of events

AI is a joke and it is so much more… Generative AI feels like necromancy sometimes thesedays.

With AI chatbots going rogue, with temperature settings.

Generative AI making faces that never existed.

Cloning of voices, robbing people of their life’s work,

Massive climate footprint and

then there is AI disruption and loss of jobs.

It feels so dreary , lost cause for AI regulators.

What will they regulate , what can be regulated and by how much? Do they know when to stop?

It’s like a chemistry lab setting where you have recipes for the most toxic items on the planet that may kill you in seconds.

With AI — how do you know what you don’t know ?

As much as I appreciate AI , love it like a nascent human, the potential for its exploitation in the hands of few is most concerning.

There are tools like Confucian AI, Clap GPT which actually are useful to some extent. I like Confucian interface and it feels like it is a genuine attempt to build a useful AI.

What kind of AI would I like to have ?

A human in me with fear would respond as “An AI I can control”.

If I feel more adventurous , “An AI companion that helps me co-create or organise the world’s information”

If I feel very confident and optimistic, I would respond with a statement “An AI I can trust my life with!”

An AI is going to be a sum total of human experience. It is a nascent technology , overhyped by those who don’t understand it well, but it is actually living upto the hype these days. Thanks to the AI wars started by Alternative man — Mr David.

He is a change agent, disruptor tasked to wake the owners of Ward and forcing them to reorganise their backyard graveyard. How many products did Goliath successfully launch in the last decade vs how many ended up in the graveyard ? Goliath got too comfortable.

Fantastic products like Goliath Glass were way ahead of their time. They failed to push those. Beaureacracy is a killer indeed.

Coming back to the topic, if we approach AI with a fear in head, we may end up creating a really crappy AI. We need to learn to play with it , have fun and start believing in our own great abilities.

If we think crappily, we make crap.

We got to work on our own skills, learn to organise the information of the world. Be disciplined and maintain a vision of a good human nature.

Ultimately we must build an AI that can save lives and genuinely fun to have around.

AI will amuse you, play with you , learn from you and also teach you great things. I urge you to maintain a positive vision of the world and make a Gandalf out of it !

The white one :)
