A deafening silence, all in green

A drape over things I want to say.

Conversations leading to the dark,

Counting the words, the sounds of it all.

Where are we going, what do you see,

A distant future, oh so bleak.

Freezing teeth, just to keep you,

The greys have never turned to blue.

Gasping for breath, in an open field,

Eyes never meet, snobbery’s reign.

Their blues and reds fade to your gold,

But how long will your lustre last though?

I’ve been here before, I know these streets

A criminal city, bruises on my body.

Still cynical of me, stepping into your flames,

Unscathed but unloved, worse than ashes.

A horizon so far, a light so bright,

Is this where we meant to part?
