The Joshua Tree
“Here I sit beneath a tree. Heart beat calm. Soul hums free" — Angie Weiland-Crosby
Under the Joshua tree, the Joshua tree
Where you first professed your love
for me
I was a little tot maybe about three
And you were just two years older
than me
I’m fourteen now and in the flush of youth
And you a young lad disheveled and
a tad uncouth
You said let’s get married and spoke
so earnestly
We sat under the Joshua tree and
talked about having a big family
A few years have passed and we’re
now mister and missus
I smile up at the gods for blessing me thus
I gaze in the eyes of our first born — a
son
And feel wonderfully complete in this
circle of love
Time has marched on and the seasons
have changed
We’ve had more children and our love
has reigned
We’ve seen them off to college, seen
how much they’ve grown
We’re empty nesters now and speak of
life’s ebb and flow
Today I attended the christening of
our first grand, Chad
And remember that just yesterday his
dad was a cusp of a lad
I walk over to the bird house he built
in the Joshua tree
And a silhouetted sunset reminds me
of eternity
Under the Joshua tree the Joshua tree
Where you first professed your love
for me
Here, our life’s forever entwined
sentimentally
Please bury my heart under the
Joshua tree
