Another story is ready to rock the world — Mahabis: 21st-century slippers, stylish, comfy, and profitable.

The market of slippers is estimated in $4 bln a year, yet their design hasn’t changed for decades. In 2015 Ankur Shah, a former lawyer from London was working at home, wearing slippers, when suddenly he decided to look for more convenient models — and he found out that this huge market had nothing to offer except old and sloppy designs. He saw the opportunity at once and decided to work on creating premium-brand slippers with minimalistic design. So he had a difficult enough task to reinvent something we’ve all got used to and make it cool and stylish.

As Ankur says, while creating the design for 21st century’s slippers, he was inspired by Moroccan, Indian and Scandinavian traditional shoes. He added Scandinavian minimalism and European quality to the babouche’s comfort (babouche — traditional Moroccan shoes).

Ankur approached the process seriously: he looked for technologies that could help him create unique and comfortable shoes. For example, he found out that 3D printing is great for manufacturing some parts of the models.

The result was redesigned slippers: stylish, comfortable and reliable.

Except redesigning Ankur added completely new feature: sole that can be put on and off. When you go out, to throw garbage, for example, you just put it on and put it off on returning back home.

What are the reasons for Mahabis slippers success?

  • stylish and comfy
  • new feature — removable soles
  • few designs and a bunch of colors available
  • good promotion strategy via social media

Facebook and Instagram are the main traffic channels. Mahabis’ Instagram page is all about the comfort of being at home. It’s not selling slippers — it’s selling the feeling of coziness.

During three years of the company’s existence, it has sold more than half a million pairs of slippers. The case of Mahabis shows that simple things that we use in day-to-day life and often don’t even pay much attention to it, can be reinvented and gain totally new approach. Ideas and chances are everywhere — you just have to notice it! And we at S-PRO are ready to help you turn your ideas into reality.
