Belief — Is it true?

I finished watching an episode of one my favorite TV shows of all time — Scandal (*sigh* that show is so good), and suddenly decided I wanted to become Olivia Pope…

So I googled the very question “How to become Olivia Pope,” which led me to an amazing article where I read something that has forever changed my outlook on life. An actress being interviewed in the article shared a piece of advice that a more experienced actor gave her about auditioning:

“They want you to be the solution. Whoever is waiting in there for you — interviewer, examiner, casting agent — is hoping you are the answer to their search. Our fear or self-doubt can persuade us that those waiting in the room want us to fail, but that means you carry that victim energy in.”

I don’t even need to tell you to let that sink in. It already has.

The only problem is, if you’re like me, you may have felt inspired for a minute or two then began questioning the veracity of this statement. Let’s welcome Doubt.

“Is this really true?” “I know these people and they don’t like me.” “What do I have that makes me the solution?”

And then it’s over. That little moment of confidence that made you feel like you could take over the world is gone. It vanished.

This time, however, I tried to bring it back. I doubted my doubt

and analyzed the facts:

  • People live completely different lives simply because they believe different things.
  • This means that belief is a choice. Believe it or not (pun intended), we choose our beliefs.
  • But if we do choose our beliefs, how can we be sure that what we are believing is true? Is accurate? Is not just our brains deceiving us?
  • Well, before belief there is nothing — nothing happens. And then someone believes and the universe rallies to their cause and then something happens.
  • This means that belief on its own is creative energy. It can create good or bad.
  • If we believe something, even if it isn’t there, as we believe, we bring it to existence. It becomes our reality.

So if it does eventually exist then it is true. It is true.

  • The certainty we are looking for is only a result of us believing: “I am the solution they’re looking for, because I believe I am, and I cause it to happen. I am creating this.”

See? You choose your belief. You choose what to create for yourself. You form your reality.
