Skip the theater and go to the park

Los Angeles encourages locals to attend outdoor movie screenings

Story by Brittni Rae

As the days grow longer and the nights become warmer, what better way to enjoy crisp summer nights than a city-lit movie in the park? While many blockbusters are coming out in theaters, Los Angeles and its surrounding cities are hosting outdoor movie screenings from early May till mid Sept.

Street Food Cinema, EatSeeHear, and the Moonlight Movies on the Beach are just three of the organizations that are selling tickets at lower prices than box offices to get an experience unlike any other. Tickets prices range from $8-$15, .

Get there early to enjoy live music from local bands before the show or arrive later and you will still be able to find great seating. Bring your own food or just grub out on the food supplied from vendors such as The Grilled Cheese Truck, The Lobsta Truck, What the Funnel, Drunken Cake Pops, and more that will be lined up all around the park.

The list of movies playing this summer are incredibly diverse. Some movies that are available for viewing are: “Heathers,” “The Sandlot,” “The Exorcist,” “Cruel Intentions,” “Fight Club,” “Scarface,” “Donnie Darko” and “The Wedding Singer.”

Nothing screams summer more than laying under the stars and picnicking with a crowd of people who know every line to the comedy, “Bridesmaids.” It’s an experience that you can’t relish in at AMC theaters .

For an even more unique experience, those who dare are welcome to watch a movie at the Great Horror Movie Campout, where you can go hang around with cast members dressed up like they just walked out of Universal Halloween Horror Nights.

For an inexpensive price, you can easily enjoy a variety of movies, cuisine and a change of scenery in the beautiful “City of Angels.”
