Building Critical Mass within Holochain
Hello All! 2018 was dedicated to showcasing our vision but 2019 is about tangible implementation and building a critical mass of entrepreneurs and users.
A glimpse into our strategy was earlier shared through our detailed Year-end Review. For those who haven’t been active in our chat-rooms, here is an update on what we’ve been up to and our plans for 2019.
Reputation, the real wealth of the New Economy!
It’s a phrase you’ve heard all through our interactions last year. The volatility and turbulence in most blockchain platforms has led to a vast cleansing over the last 6 months. Designs borrowed from the centralised economy have fallen away swiftly, validating our decisions to focus on reputation as a form of wealth over tokens/cryptocurrencies etc. For more on this, read through resources on our Webpage.
Amidst the chaos, platforms like Holochain have emerged as the torch bearers for the distributed economy. While they began slowly in Q4 2018, we’ve been positively surprised by the strength and frequency of their updates. It’s given us the confidence to roll out the first implementation of the Reputation Interchange on Holochain!
Holochain will give us the Critical Mass we need
- Interactions : 2018 gave us opportunities to showcase our vision across countries. While this was critical in establishing our presence, and whetting our vision across 6500 people, we have now narrowed our focus to communities that are keen on building with us. Therefore our interactions have been limited to stakeholders and entrepreneurs within the Holochain eco-system.
2. Building within Holochain
a. Technical Architecture: Over Q1 2019, we have been positively surprised by the steady stream of updates released by Holochain through initiatives like DevPulse. We’ve also gained confidence through their DevCamps and Closed Alpha as they progress towards activation in Mid 2019. Projects like Hylo and HoloREA have further shown us the efficiencies that can be achieved through a collaborative, modular approach that is the norm on platforms like Holochain.
All of this, has helped us piece together the architecture for our Reputation Interchange. (see details below). If you would like to see the detailed release on this, join our Tech QnA Chat room
b. The Credit Economy: With the help of Holo’s Commercial Director, David Atkinson (architect of the Ethical Issuance model), we’ve been able to give shape to our Credit Economy late last year. It’s modelled along the lines of value stable currencies like HoloFuel (see more details on this link.) Before these credits launch, it is critical that the Holo network stabilises.
We were keen on rolling this early this year, but due to delays in Holochain’s activation, we have had to wait. The volatile cryptocurrency environment also means there’s little value in issuing transition ERC20 tokens as a stop-gap solution.
We have tremendous faith in value stable currencies becoming the norm for the distributed economy. In order to establish develop acceptance for these designs, we’ve helped kick-off an Entrepreneur’s Support Forum within Holochain. The purpose of this forum is to address entrepreneur and investor queries around funding value stable currencies and Holochain Apps. To participate in this conversation as it unfolds, we welcome you to join Holo’s chatroom on this link.
c. Genesis Entrepreneurs: All through this process, we’ve also been showcasing our Reputation Interchange to interested entrepreneurs within the Holochain eco-system. Examples of the kind of applications can be seen below. To follow this, join our chatrooms.
Going forward, we will be keeping email updates down to a minimum for only prominent updates. If you would like to engage with us in a deeper way we recommend signing up to our new Chat servers, or our room on Holochain, and subscribing to our Medium channel. We will also be using upcoming social networking paradigms like Holo Chat and Hylo, so stay tuned for announcements on those!
PS: It’s interesting to see pop culture catch on. Here’s a scene from Season 2, Episode 5 of Orville describing reputation economies as the future of humanity! And no, we haven’t been talking to the creator Seth MacFarlane. Does anyone reading this know him? Connect us :)
