Welcome to Sad on Sundays
Embracing the Complexities of Faith
Hello and welcome to Sad on Sundays!
This is a publication dedicated to sharing the stories and experiences of people navigating the complexities of faith. Your first question might be why I chose Sad on Sundays as the name for this project. Well, for a while now, I’ve been feeling sad on Sundays — the day of the week when many people I know attend church and gather with their spiritual communities.
Since the pandemic started, I’ve made the decision not to attend church consistently, but I’ve found that I miss the sense of community that comes with participating in religious rituals. I’ve been searching for a spiritual community that resonates with me, but I’ve struggled with some of the rigid beliefs and structures of organized religion. As I continue to explore what I want my Sundays to look like, I thought it would be nice to create a space for those who are also seeking a different path to spirituality — one that is authentic, open-minded, and inclusive.
My own spiritual journey began several years ago when I realized that the Evangelical Church environment I grew up in no longer resonated with me. I had questions that I didn’t feel comfortable asking within the church walls, and I was looking for a space where I could explore my faith in a more honest and authentic way. Over time, I began to realize that spirituality and faith was far more complex than the teachings I had grown up with.
I started reading books and listening to podcasts from spiritual leaders outside of my own religious background, and I found myself drawn to a wider range of beliefs and practices. As I delved into these resources, a whole new world of beliefs and practices opened up to me. I challenged my previous beliefs and reexamined them in light of these new perspectives and my own personal experiences.
Through this process, the God I believe in now is much more expansive and all-encompassing than the one I used to know.
If you’re reading this blog, chances are you’re on a spiritual journey of your own. Exploring beliefs and practices that differ from what you were taught growing up can be very scary, but I want to encourage you to keep seeking, keep questioning, and keep learning. Engage with the content on this blog, share your own stories and experiences, and reach out to others who are on a similar path. Let’s create a community that embraces the complexities of faith and supports each other in our spiritual journeys.
Thank you for joining me on this difficult but worthwhile adventure.
