Mistakes Happen

Everyone makes mistakes.

How often have you heard that phrase? It’s a fact of life that’s usually brought up in a conciliatory manner, meant to assuage guilt or disappointment when we’ve slipped up and are feeling down on ourselves. Maybe it’s accompanied by a shrug and a “life-goes-on” kind of attitude. In the realm of public work, mistakes can be scary — they can be the difference between a normal day at work and a sentinel event. Sometimes they can be the difference between life and death.

At SafetyCommitteeApp, we see each accident as a learning experience. We longed for a way to take those events and turn them into something useful — something you and your safety committee could analyze, learn from, and use to improve upon your day-to-day operations.

But we also understand that it can be difficult to come forward when you’ve made a mistake. At best, it’s uncomfortable to admit that you’ve messed up, especially when that mistake has jeopardized your safety or the safety of those around you. And it’s even harder to fess up when you fear that your job could be on the line. We saw this fear as one of the most glaring obstacles we wanted to overcome when creating SafetyCommitteeApp.

Our goal was to make reporting as safe and painless as possible, so we designed SafetyCommitteeApp with a 100% anonymous user access — names are scrubbed from the record, and our multi-tiered user permissions ensure that the only people who see the data are the people who are supposed to see it. That means that individuals can report when they’ve had a near miss without fear of disciplinary action or termination, and more consistent reporting results in richer, more meaningful data that will benefit your department in the long run.

And when mistakes do result in an injury, SafetyCommitteeApp can help with that, too. Our anonymous user access means that SafetyCommitteeApp users can also submit their 801 reports through the application, without committee members having to know who submitted them.

We know that sentinel events are never pleasant experiences. Whether they resulted in an injury or property damage, or were simply near misses, the last thing you want to do is re-hash your occurrence for a grueling report. With SafetyCommitteeApp’s clean, user-friendly interface, it’s easier than ever to collect the necessary information in a straightforward way. No unnecessary frills — just what you need, when you need it.

Once your people are reporting all of their events and near misses without fear of negative repercussions, and you’ve collected a wealth of rich data, how do you put it to use? We imagined an application that stored everything in the cloud and would allow you to access your stored reports from any device, anywhere, at any time. Because what use are your reports when they’re not easy to access? When everything is where you need it to be, it’s easier for you to comply with OSHA regulations, protect yourself from violations, and mitigate any future occurrences. The right data, stored the right way, can help you and your safety committee make informed decisions about your department’s safety practices.

Accidents are inevitable. But when your people feel safe in their jobs and secure in their anonymity, they’re more likely to come forward with data that could help you to prevent the same accidents from happening again in the future. That’s why we created SafetyCommitteeApp in the first place — to provide a place where you can manage and keep track of your department’s safety.

Everyone makes mistakes. SafetyCommitteeApp is here to help you make the most of them.
