In January, the Saffron community focused on completing updates for the Saffron governance process, as well as preparing for the first Saffron V2 partner pool launch. The Saffron V2 insurance pool release schedule (our long-awaited tranche pools) will begin on Kucoin Community Chain followed by deployment on Ethereum mainnet. The first audited V2 pool will be launched on MojitoSwap on KCC, pools on MojitoSwap normally earning over 100% APR will have around 30% APR with 100% insured coverage on the senior tranche. More on this later.

If you’ve been waiting for the holiday event NFT distribution, at this point they have been fully dispersed, please check your address for airdropped NFTs.

Let’s dig into the plan for Saffron in 2022.

2022 Priorities

The community has been asking for a pointed list of priorities and goals for Saffron. Let’s explore some of the priorities that have been decided by the developer community as a path to protocol expansion this year. Here is a list I’ve put together that outlines the goals for Saffron dev in 2022:

Protocol products:

  1. Saffron V2 insurance pools launching on new chains (KCC, NEO, and Solana first… then Arbitrum, Fantom, Polygon, Avalanche soon after)
  2. Saffron V2 insurance pools launching on ethereum mainnet (Rari, Badger, Curve, and Uniswap as a focus)
  3. Impermanent loss protection pools
  4. Fixed interest pools
  5. Above mentioned pools will be launched first as experimental contracts unaudited (with caps) to immediately engage our community and to get a sense of real APR and user decision-making

Infrastructure upgrades:

  1. New multi-chain web3 app
  2. Additional DEX liquidity
  3. Token re-denomination (unit bias is real)
  4. New website and documentation
  5. Saffron Vision (similar to uniswap.info for Saffron V2)
  6. More regular governance and blog posts

Now, on to a breakdown of activity we saw in Saffron during January.

Saffron and Neo

It has been 2 months since the announcement of a collaboration between NEO and Saffron.

NEO News Today wrote a spotlight on Saffron and its role in the NEO Early Adoption Program: https://twitter.com/NEOnewstoday/status/1484541535228207115

NEO is also giving away free collectors edition NFTs. To participate in the N3 Collector’s Edition NFT giveaway, sign up for the NEO blind box giveaway by emailing Dingo: dingo@saffron.finance

Saffron and MojitoSwap

Saffron in collaboration with MojitoSwap (the largest DEX on Kucoin Community Chain) will soon open the first risk-adjustment pool for providing liquidity on KCC. There is already an SFI pool open on their AMM and the KCC bridge supports SFI tokens.

Saffron and Bancor

Previously, the Bancor governance community whitelisted SFI as an asset eligible for single-sided staking via Bancor’s IL protection. Protocol-to-protocol collaboration with Bancor has ramped up and both of our communities have voted YES on two new governance proposals. The first enables LM rewards on Bancor for providing liquidity to the SFI/BNT pair. https://snapshot.org/#/bancornetwork.eth/proposal/0x045eee4679957db7f44cc8ead0b203a8aa69ad6400a4ac8526288c79d8afbefb

The second encourages the Saffron treasury to use Bancor for treasury purchases in the future. https://snapshot.org/#/saffronfinance.eth/proposal/0xe673c30643188971341b05e915b1e41670aa559f090be39230c4ffadbe6a3173

The SFI/BNT pool on Ethereum has some of the highest liquidity for SFI right now, and LM rewards as previously mentioned for providing liquidity, the pool can be found here: https://app.bancor.network/pools
