This Is The Reason A Lot Of Self-Help Books Don’t Help
We can make changes, but we simply don’t
Turning the pages, I felt nothing. Reading the words that someone took weeks to prepare for me, I felt nothing. The revelations that were to come from reading this book didn’t hit me.
I was still stuck, though had a few slight shifts in my perspective. A slight change in my overall philosophy of life and how to be living it.
The words came from a best-selling book written by none other than Mark Manson — The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. By far one of the biggest self-help books around, it cuts through what a lot of self-help is believed and is, and entertains a little about what it should be like.
About making life about solving particular problems that you want to solve.
About the fact a lot of gurus focus on those high highs and are afraid of providing harder truths or more practical approaches.
As someone who has been on this journey for a decade and writing about the industry as a whole, maybe this book wasn’t quite right for me. After all, this is Mark Manson. He has a hugely popular blog, provides some practical takes, and created a book that overall doesn’t hype up anything and gives you hope and direction.
