Will the Real Jesus Christ Please Stand Up
The role of evangelical Christians in U.S. politics has me a bit confused
My heart has been aching as I’ve watched the first weeks of the Trump Presidency unfold. I’ve had to see mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, and grandparents and grandchildren all in tears as their family is ripped apart by federal agents. There’s now even a quota for how many people each day need to be rounded up and taken against their will.
We had the announcement that a 30,000-person concentration camp is to be constructed in Guantanamo Bay, a place famous for its lack of transparency, circumvention of constitutional protections, and torture. We’ve passed a law so that if any of these people are just charged with a crime — that is, before they are even given due process — they are to be deported or sent to this shady prison indefinitely.
One seemingly innocent man, who was not even here illegally, was sent there just because he had a Michael Jordan tattoo, as some gang is apparently known for having tattoos depicting the famous basketball player. Meanwhile, individual states have proposed giving undocumented migrants life in prison and doling out rewards for bounty hunters to track them down.
