When was the last time you had a look at the services you deliver with a fresh pair of eyes?

The “Better Services by Design” workshop on the 29th October set out to demonstrate how design can help us identify the shortcomings of processes and services that we take for granted and by working together we can cut unnecessary cost, risk, effort and friction and explore the potential for digitally enhanced services (making use of free-to-use tools developed by the project).

Mydex CIC offered this half day Service Design workshop to public and third sector organisations delivering services to citizens. It was offered free of charge as part of Mydex’ “Seamless Access to Inclusive Digital Services” (SAIDS) project; supported by our research partners University of Edinburgh; and funded by the Scottish Government and European Social Fund through the Social Innovation Fund.

The video above follows the process of capturing the current state through visual storytelling, empathy maps and journey mapping to identify cost, risk, effort and friction.

The workshop was attended by frontline workers from a variety of public and third sector organisations. We learned a lot about the challenges services face and why SAIDS is needed. We are repeating the workshop on 26th November in Edinburgh and 3rd December in Glasgow, if you are involved in delivering services to citizens why not come along?
