I can honestly say I’m in love with Isle of Skye. In my previous post (10 MUST-SEE places in Scotland ) I already mentioned this gorgeous part of the country, so let me show you some of my favourite places. Get ready to be amazed!

Portree

Portree is the main town on Skye so it’s the ideal place to be your base during your tour on the island. It’s a lovely wee town with colourful houses and a natural harbour. Perfect view to enjoy a good Fish & Chips.

Kilt Rock and Mealt Waterfall

The waterfall fed from Mealt Loch and free-falls off the cliff for 60m into the Sound of Raasay below.

The rock formation apparently looks looks a pleated kilt, that where it’s name comes from.

Personally, that is one of my favourite spot on the island. The endless sea, that view, the wind blowing trough the fence and making an unearthly whistling sound… on top of all this We were lucky enough to have a professional bagpiper playing in the background so it really made the whole experience unforgettable.

The Old Man of Storr

Probably the busiest walk on Skye, but to be perfectly honest I’m not quite sure why. Don’t get me wrong it’s a beautiful view, but if it’s worth the one and a half — two hours long walk the top — possibly in pouring rain — I leave it to you to decide.

Fairy pools

My absolutely favourite walk on the Isle of Skye. The fairy pools are quite small crystal clear blue natural pools. Besides these pools, some of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island are found here. It takes roughly one hour but it depends on how far up you walk. The path ends after 20 minutes, so from here just follow the river (or the crowd). During the walk, you have to cross the river a couple of times but it might be challenging for some people because you literally have to jump from rock to rock in order to get to the other side.

Come rain or shine this walk offers you everything you want : tall mountains, rivers, waterfalls, lush green trees and fields of wild flowers.

Lealt Falls

And last but not least an other gorgeous and pretty big waterfall. Unfortunately this photo photo doesn’t do justice to the beauty of the waterfall but believe me it’s breathtaking in person. Unlike the Fairy Pools it’s an easy trip for anyone as there is a car park approximately 5 minutes walk away from the waterfall.

Please leave a comment below if you can recommend any other beautiful places (In Skye or anywhere else in the UK — as we always looking for amazing places to visit. ) Or if you are planning a trip and need any information. I’m here to help. :)

Come and sail away with me.

Love,

Andrea
