Nobody told you to visit this place in Innsbruck

Well if you are active on Instagram, by now you must have come across the cliché reels where you-wake-up-to-an-amazing-view. The usual drill would be the influencer waking up and walking you through his resort or opening the blinds to reveal an amazing 360 degrees sweeping view. Just like mountain-lovers feel renewed love and awe for mountains every time they are up there (I do !), similarly there‘s nothing wrong with wanting to wake up to a stunning breathtaking view. Well I will tell you about one such place you could wake up to and even a tram ride you take from there to work would seem so other-worldly (unless ofcourse you grew up there!).

So, I am talking about a beautiful location which is bit off-beat and away from the centre of Innsbruck. Innsbruck is a picturesque mountain-town in Austria, capital of the beautiful state of Tyrol and a popular destination for winter-sports. But, even without the motivation for winter sports, tourists throng this town all year round and I am about to tell you why! While most places in South-Germany, Austria and Switzerland come with this beautiful view of green meadows sprawling until the edges of the mountains with beautiful streams setting the picture in motion, Innsbruck is slightly different in the way it is cosily cradled between the very high mountain ranges on both North and South. So on the North, Innsbruck is guarded by Nordkette, the southern most mountains of the Karwendal mountain range and on the south it is surrounded by mountains like Patscherkopfel (foothill ranges of Alps). And, in between like a giant cosine wave, flows the river of Inn ( the name Innsbruck means a bridge over the Inn). I can tell you more about how to spend the perfect two days hiking in these mountain ranges in the next article, but here I will tell you more you about the place I mentioned here. So, usual tourists, would go to these mountains either using the cable cars or the funiculars, and walk through the beautiful streets of old town along with visit to museums like Swarovski crystal world etc, but I would take you to this beautiful small place to 4.6 km south of Innsbruck centre called Mutters.

Mutters (which in German approximately means Mothers) to me is just like a mother who sets the ground for the child to go out and have incredible experiences. We had booked this place as this was the only place which was still close to Innsbruck and yet away from the bustling crowded centre. We arrived there quite late in the evening and walked a bit up towards our stay. We had no idea how this place looked in the dark, but we had a feeling that there was a lot of sprawling open space around. The next morning (here comes the Influencer scene) while pulling aside the blinds, we had a slight hint of glistening mountain peaks and as we rushed to the balcony, there in the distance was very neatly lined up beautiful mountains from the Nordkette including the peaks such as the highest point called Top of Innsbruck. The mountains appeared so close as if you would throw a stone from the balcony over the red rooftops and spires of the buildings in the front, and there it would fall at the feet of those gigantic mountains. They no longer felt like a distant affair, but rather a massive mountain rising tall above the green line of trees, through the cotton-like floating clouds, into the blue skies blushing in the reddish glow of the morning sun. It felt like an open book where you could see all of the mountains from beginning to the end all together and nothing was waiting to be revealed around another corner.

While one could possibly find many scenic stays in different country side location around mountains, what was even more spectacular about this place was the breathtaking views it offered while taking the tram to the city centre which is run by Stubaitalbahn. Meandering through lush country side, on a fine Monday morning when locals on the tram were on their way to work, we couldn’t take our eyes off the scenic route unfolding at each bend from the Karwendal range on the left to the Alps on the right. Sometimes going off the beat helps you discover trails that you would never otherwise follow. We loved this journey to-fro the city centre so much that we chose to stay at the location in our next visit to Innsbruck again. Watching over the beautiful Innsbruck valley while snaking our way between the mountains watching the cattle chewing away their breakfast, and the brilliant sun rays reflecting onto white mountain peaks scattering in many laughters into the blue sky was the best Monday blues experienced in my life.

Heres a short video to show you what you imagined so far it could like …

Does it match? Let me know :p
