BOSTON, Mass., Feb. 10, 2017 — The blizzard of 2017 hit parts of the state this week leaving 10–12 inches of snow in Boston. Conditions in Hyannis, Martha’s Vineyard, Marshfield and Beverly were also strong enough to qualify the storm in those cities and towns as a blizzard.

What makes for a blizzard you ask? Sustained or frequent wind gusts of 35 mph or higher along with reduced visibility to one fourth of a mile according to the National Weather Service. East Longmeadow won the highest snow total at 19 inches while Nantucket residents had the least accumulation in the state at 2.2 inches.

Power outages also plagued the state Thursday. Eversource deployed crews toward the south shore, the area with the most outages. By 4pm on Friday, Eversource still reported 38 outages in Boston and all down cape cod starting just before the canal; 612 outages in Barnstable.
