Each and every platform has two interfaces.

  1. Administrator panel
  2. User panel

Administrator Panel

Also called as admin panel. It is limited to the people in the company who needs to control the application. The panel will have many actionable sections to control it. There can be one or multiple people to access the admin panel based on their roles in the company. In Salesforce Commerce Cloud, the administrator panel is called a “Business Manager”.

User Panel

It is an end user-facing application interface. Where users will visit your site, check around, add products to the cart, and checkout. Users would have a login and registration interface to have their settings stored and to access historical order data. In Salesforce Commerce Cloud the user panel is called a “Storefront”.

Roles

In your organization, it is possible that there are many team members working on a different levels to handle your selling business. Through Business Manager you can decide access levels of each role very easily. The requirement of the role is to assign different users only relevant modules they are working on so they can not touch any other features unwillingly.

Manage Sites

You can manage multiple sites on your server. Create a new site, configure it, modify code as needed, and there you go. You can manage customers, orders, products, payment gateways for each site as you need. You can even enable or disable the site as well. A few other things you can do are, caching, products, contents, marketing promotions, and campaigns, taxes, reporting, timezone, domain alias.

Replication

Once you have configured your site on the Staging instance and are ready to go to the public, you can handle it via the Replication module from the Business Manager. You can easily replicate code and data using a few clicks. Also you can revert the last data replication as well.

Network Access

You can really restrict access of the Business Manager to operate from specified IP addresses or ranges along with roles and permissions. This is used to block potential attackers from troubling your Business Manager and no one else could access outside and affect data privacy.

Favorites

When you are working constantly on the Business Manager, sometimes you would feel that you should have quick access to certain modules. For that reason, you can use the favorites module to enable a quick access link. It will start displaying links on your dashboard to take you directly to the module interface.

Customize

Based on your requirements and integrations you can customize the Business Manager. You can add menu items, menu actions, dialog actions, forms. For Orders and Customers, you can define sequence, auto failure, and retention periods.

Conclusion

The BM is the most required part of setting up the storefront. There are below items that you can handle via BM, which is a very crucial part of the site: Taxation, Customer management, Order management, Promotions, Campaigns, Search preferences, SEO, Create/Delete sites, Data replications. All of these activities can be done only if you have access to the BM.
