Salesforce Design (SD): How did you get into design?

Nate Hossner (NH): I started working on low code builders several years ago at my previous company. I knew our product broadly and I was acutely aware of our customer admin’s biggest pain points so it turned out to be a great fit. I was able to combine our technology, user interface (UI) frameworks, and customer problem statements into shippable features in our low code builders and watch adoption grow. Super fun!

Aayushi Bhargava (AB): I have always been passionate about building software. To help admins build apps using clicks was icing on the cake.

SD: What do you wish more people appreciated about the value of design?

NH: Design is a critical piece of software development and I’ve enjoyed using rough UX mockups to drive software requirements from the start. Putting the visual and aspirational aspects of a feature up for discussion first before getting bogged down in technical details can create a different, often better, outcome.

SD: In the simplest terms, what’s the focus of your TDX session?

NH: Leveraging the capabilities of the Lightning App Builder to create the best experience for your users.

AB: Help developers build useful, adaptive, and effective Aura and Lightning Web Components.

SD: What key points do you hope audiences will get from your TDX session and why is that important to you?

NH: I want to showcase the newest additions to Lightning App Builder, especially Dynamic Related Lists which is one of the highest ranked suggestions from our Idea Exchange. When our admins are equipped with knowledge about the latest and greatest features, they’re empowered to create great experiences for their users.

AB: Helping developers make the most of the features that the teams at Salesforce create is very important to me. I intend to share best practices with developers which will help them create quality components and use the various low-code features that our teams have developed.

SD: How do you think this will help people do their work better or collaborate better?

NH: An admin who can compose great experiences with Lightning App Builder is an invaluable resource to their customers and will be loved by their users!

AB: The App Builder will help develop powerful components which will enable admins to create powerful and interactive pages and apps.

SD: How has design helped you build relationships with customers, co-workers, or communities?

NH: Talking over design prototypes with a cross-functional group of people is a great way to discover your team’s similarities and differences — everyone has an opinion on design! Eventually, this type of collaboration leads to formalization of standards and processes which creates efficiency in the development process and strengthens your team and product.

SD: What do you love about your role at Salesforce?

NH: I love working with customers. I appreciate their challenges and I love when we can deliver something that helps huge numbers of people on a regular basis.

AB: The ability to build powerful frequently-used features and help admins and developers build dynamic experiences.
