Born in 1951, the dynamic Bangladeshi businessman is the son of Fazlur Rahman and Syeda Fatina Rahman. He attained his graduation degree from the University of Karachi in the late 1960s. In the 1960s, he owned a family-run jute mill, which was nationalized in 1971, after the independence of Bangladesh. It was in 1972, when he officially entered into the business.
Salman F Rahman started exports of seafood and crushed bones to the western part of the world, along with his elder brother, Sohail F Rahman. Naming their company as Bangladesh Export and Import Company Limited, they mostly exported to the countries like the UK, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Later, the name of the company was changed to Beximco, which today stands as the most diversified and the oldest multinational conglomerate.
Primarily, Beximco Group dealt in trading of raw materials. Under the supervision of the experienced businessman of Bangladesh, Salman F Rahman, the venture became a success. Today, it is the largest private sector group in Bangladesh.
With its headquarters in Dhaka, the company has presence in over 45 countries across the globe. It is deemed as an industry leader in both manufacturing and service sectors. With a market capitalization of over $617.34 million, it gives employment to over 6 lakh people.

In 2017, he went to go to Cox’s Bazar during the Rohingya crisis. Setting up medical health camps, he and his company provided free treatment to the people of Rohingya. In 2017, Salman F Rahman became the first Bangladeshi to enter the Hurun Global Rich List. In the list of 2,257 billionaires, he was ranked number 1,685. Besides, the Forbes magazine also listed him as the top billionaire in Bangladesh.
