Looking For The Northern Lights
Beauty and magic we may never see.
Seeing the Northern Lights is on my bucket list.
A few weeks ago the lights were strong and visible and my son took some photos of them.
Lisa and I didn’t know the lights were on until the following morning when we were greeted by hundreds of pictures on FaceBook. We had slept through a great chance to see the lights. There was another chance to see the lights and we went on a midnight date to a local park to see them, but all we could see was cloud.
This was the same last night, the same midnight date under a cloudy sky.
It got me thinking, all the magic of the lights was still there, regardless of our ability to see it. And I started to use the metaphor for situations in my life.
I know I have beautiful magical loving people around me. I know God loves me and reassures me constantly, I know he has placed amazing souls around me to hold my hands on my journey. I know miracles are possible and improvement is always available. Beauty and magic are everywhere, but just like the lights they are not always visible to the naked eye.
But lately, my view of the magic in life has been clouded by fear, self-doubt, debt, and extreme tiredness. It is so much harder to see the lights or at times believe that they are dancing behind these clouds.
Clouds and rain can become the norm, or at least the expectation, it can feel pointless looking for the lights of magic, the temptation to assume we will never see the beauty can grow, quietly and almost unseen. We can begin to accept that our life doesn’t include magic.
Staying dry becomes the norm, and we release the desire to swim in magic and creativity.
So looking for the lights requires new skills.
Firstly to believe it is possible to see them.
Secondly, be ready to fit them into your plans, working out the most likely way of seeing them.
Thirdly, turn up regardless, clouds can quickly clear, and have faith that one day they will.
Fourthly, keep researching more about them until the magic happens.
These are the same skills for any creation of magic, believe and watch your world change.
So next week why not go magic hunting, let the lights light up our lives.
Let us see how many photos we can get! 6th June looks good, fingers crossed.
Thanks for reading but more importantly thanks for being your beautiful self.
