Self-awareness is one of the most essential qualities in a relationship. High levels of self-awareness are a sign of high emotional intelligence that will lead to:

  • Improved communication
  • More empathy
  • Improved conflict resolution
  • Improved emotional regulation

With a clear understanding of our strengths and weaknesses and how our emotions, moods, and actions impact our partners, we can avoid building resentment and misunderstandings. A lack of self-awareness can quickly erode a relationship’s foundation, making open communication and mutual respect all the more crucial.

Examples of Why Awareness Is Critical

We feel discarded when we tell our significant other something is important to us, and they do not honor that, no matter how big or small the matter. Or, when we constantly move something our significant other puts in the “wrong” spot, hoping they catch on — when they are unaware of where things go, it can be very frustrating.
