Summary

This week I finished up the script based on my SME’s video, reviewed my sample slides after the On the Boards session, and got some new input on working with images.

Reviewing the sample slides has been helpful, because it’s given me a chance to see what works and what doesn’t, as well as how the material needs to be broken up. I’m intending my materials to go alongside the software that I’m teaching, and I’ve realized that one of my design parameters should be to reduce the number of times the learner has to advance slides. The materials will be frustrating if they require too much back-and-forth, so I have to think carefully about how much each slide should contain.

I also spoke to the Map Dynamics CEO about my need for placing numbers on images, and he suggested that I talk to Matt, one of his staff who is working on client documentation in the same system I’m using. Matt’s been working on some of the same issues I’ve encountered, and a few of his solutions are interesting. It was great to get to talk over the constraints of the tool with someone else who has been working with it.

Concerns

This week I want to edit my script so I can start formatting the text on the slides. I also want to incorporate some of Matt’s ideas into a first run of images, so we can brainstorm further.
