Keep going!
Never let a wall stop you
Who of us wouldn’t want to live in a world where everything happens exactly as we’d like it to? Sadly, life doesn’t work that way.
We can make all plans we want but life, in some form or another, always manages to throw us curve balls—usually at the most inconvenient moments.
For me, as part of my daily writing project, I like to take twenty minutes after my girls have gone to bed to do my writing. Usually this is around 8pm and it—mostly—works out pretty well.
Until it doesn’t.
And the girls refuse to go to sleep.
And I’m trying to write next door in the office but they’re coming out of their room every two minutes.
Or, like right now, where I’m lying on the other end of Imogen’s bed, trying through my presence to help her drift off to sleep, having to do my writing on my iPhone, still trying to grab these few moments I have to write.
In other words, this is a far from perfect writing setup!
But if I depend on everything lining up perfectly in order to write, it’ll never happen. It’s easy to turn a situation like this into an excuse.
I could very justifiably say that these circumstances mean it’s fine to skip a day. But I don’t want to do that. It’d set me on a slippery slope.
I’m determined to not let life’s uncertainties become an excuse for not sticking to what I’ve set out to do.
We mustn’t ever let a wall stop us. Whether we need to find a way over it, around it, or through it, we must not give up!
