iBeacons Are Ready To Rock!

It’s that time of year again. A time when thousands of music fans begin their migration to the Coachella Music and Arts festival and get their fix of music, sun, and fun. While most of the buzz is focused on this years headliners, Apple’s new iBeacon has begun to generate some buzz of its own.

iBeacon technology lets businesses set up transmitters which can tell nearby smartphones of their presence. By embracing iBeacons, Coachella joins a growing number of event organizers making often innovative use of location-aware beacons to enhance the visitor experience. Aside from a brief mention on Coachella’s website that says, “Use Bluetooth to interact with beacons placed around the grounds,” it is largely unknown how the festival plans to implement the technology.

Brands have already begun using this technology. but I’m curious to see how Coachella and the iBeacon will adapt this technology to improve the overall festival experience.
