As social media grows and evolves, so does the mighty Hashtag! The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark a keyword or trending topic. Organically created by Twitter users, the hashtag helped categorize different messages. In the past few years, the hashtag has become somewhat of a #culturalphenomenon. And people are using hashtags in just about every form of communication. Including advertisers who are now using hashtags to drive discussions about certain products and brands.

It’s clear that when used properly, hashtags can really help people find a specific discussion, product or trending topic. But when hashtags become overused and abused.
