While Americans have curbed their nicotine habit overall, an alarming 80% of people with severe mental illness still smoke. The National Institute of Drug Abuse is helping them quit, by developing a smoking cessation app that’s tailored to their specific needs. This app really puts patients first by illustrating abstracts ideas, compensating for tremors, simplifying the experience with flatter navigation, and including unique motivational rewards. And the benefits aren’t just theoretical. The Learn to Quit app is going through clinical trials now and will have full results later this year.
