Hard on the heels of our stable release of Samsung Internet 9.2, we’re pleased to announce the release of 9.4 Beta, now rolling out via the Galaxy and Play stores to all Beta users. It’s an update to our 9.2, based on the same Chromium version (M67).

Along with the obligatory “bug fixes and performance enhancements,” our newest beta also provides some UI changes.

Push notifications are a relatively new web feature and it’s safe to say as a community we are still figuring out how to deal with them. We’ve already written about how some web sites misuse push notifications by asking users for permissions on first visit. Our new notification manager helps users to come to grips with what notifications they are receiving and to more easily disable undesirable notifications when necessary. A note to developers: when you make use of push notifications, please make sure you are using them wisely to deliver relevant and requested information to users.

The display of “tabs” in Samsung Internet has been optimised for the mobile screen and form factor. Now, we’re tweaking the way we display tabs on devices with larger screens.

We’re also tweaking how you can view history by allowing you to long-press on the forward and back buttons.

Many web sites set a long title for their pages to aid usability and SEO. This sometimes results in undesirable behaviour when you save this site to your home screen. Now when you add a web shortcut to the home screen, you can rename it.

You can always find out beta at the URL galaxy.store/internet-beta. This will redirect appropriately either to the Play store or the Galaxy store depending on what device you’re using.
