Growing the Digital Services team
Digital Services is growing 🎉 Over the summer, we will be hiring 17 new people, taking us from a team of 24 to a team of 41.
Where we’ve been
We have achieved a lot in the last 2 years. We’ve released the beginnings of a new website for the City. We’ve made it possible for people to apply for a Cannabis business license online. And we’ve added affordable housing ownership to our Affordable Housing service. That’s on top of our continued support for a variety of websites and apps that we are responsible for, and building our own in-house tool for making web forms.
There have been many victories along the way, and I’m proud of our team for what we’ve accomplished so far. We’ve developed a positive and inclusive team culture and shown what it means to design with our residents.
Where we’re headed
But there’s more to do. We are committed to making all permitting digital so that it’s easier to build housing, open a business, and have an event in the City. In the next few years San Franciscans will be able to go on the City’s website and apply for any permit online. They will have a smooth user experience without having to navigate the complexity of government structures and processes. While service and experience design are our starting points, we also have much to do technically to connect the different systems used by our departments and show what a modular, interoperable service architecture looks like.

So we’re going to need a bigger team. This work is not for the feint of heart. It requires tenacity and commitment to staying the course, but the rewards are huge. Over the summer we will be hiring for all roles across the team, including:

1 user researcher
1 senior product manager
1 engagement lead
