Bhaja Govindam is a one of the most devotional hymn in Sanskrit composed by Adi Shankaracharya. The hymn, also known as Moha Mudgara means destroyer of illusion.

Bhaja Govindam is composed by Adi Shankaracharya on one of his journey along with his disciples when he observed an old man trying to learn loudly the rules of Grammar . Adi Shankaracharya out of his deep compassion told the old main, “at this old age, learning basic grammar rules is not worthwhile, please get up and don’t be in delusion” and thus emerged the beautiful verses of Bhaja Govindam.

Subsequently, the disciples of Adi Shankaracharya added more verses. Sureshacharya, Totakacharya, Hastamalaka went on adding more verses at the end portion of the Bhaja Govindam.

The whole composition of Bhaja Govindam resonates on the importance of devotion and surrender.

Sharing the link of one of my favorite video of beautifully sung Bhaja Govindam along with its meaning(in English).

All the verses inspires us to seek only Lord and give up all delusional needs.

The 31st verse of the hymn describes that under the guidance of Master (Guru), you will come to experience the Lord, who dwells in your heart.

गुरुचरणाम्बुज निर्भर भक्तः,
संसारादचिराद्भव मुक्तः।
सेन्द्रियमानस नियमादेवं,
द्रक्ष्यसि निज हृदयस्थं देवम् ।।

Gurucharanambuja Nirbhara Bhaktah,
Samsaradaciradbhava Muktah
Sendriyamanasa Niayamadevam
DraksyasiNijahrdayastham Devam

Translation
Oh devotee, in the Lotus Feet of the Master,
May you become liberated soon from the life of deficiency — Samsara.
Through the discipline of the sense organs and the mind,
You will come to experience the Lord that dwells in your heart.
