Forgiveness — Part 2
Forgive yourself and forgive all
Please click here for part one
Let’s try to understand, “Why can’t I forgive”?
Reason for resentment: Could be anything, from he/she stole my candy when I was little, or, he/she abused me. It’s my wrongdoings. In the end, it’s about the EGO. You hurt my ego, I hurt yours. The mind doesn’t like ego getting hurt.
Let’s find out, how to forgive regardless of the past actions and outcomes. Regardless of any reason.
If you can’t forgive, your heart develops a void feeling. There is no fun in suffering. Let’s get rid of that silly stuff from you first. Once you know how to forgive, you slowly release the suffering. It just melts away and disappears. I am not going to talk about the traditional way to forgive. This is different. We are going to find out ‘who is trying to forgive’.
First ask yourself, who is looking for forgiveness or wants to forgive? This is not a trick question, so the answer should be “I want to forgive”.
Who is this “I”, the one, who wants to forgive? Once, we know who “I” is then, it’s easy to solve the question. Do you know who you are?
Man, woman, daughter, son, brother, sister, husband, wife, manager, CEO, worker, doctor, lawyer, housekeeper, police officer, janitor, king, queen…. These are just calcifications, this is not ‘you’. I can go on, but I guess, you got the idea.
Let’s dig a little deeper here. Let’s find out who you are. Let’s ask ourselves:
Am I this body?
Am I this mind?
Am I the intellect?
Upanishad and Advaita Vedanta:
We will use the Neti Neti concept (NN — not this, not this), which is the, whatever you understand is not you, concept. Along with Drig Drisya Viveka concept, (DDV — analysis of the Seer and the Seen). This tells you, that what you see is not ‘you’, but the seer is ‘you’. Confused? Ok, let’s put it in the perspective.
1. Look at your hand, your eyes are looking at your hand, so you are not your hand.
Here, your eyes are the seer and the hand is seen (DDV)
Take the seen out (hand) and now keep your seer (eyes) DDV
You understand, this is your hand so drop the hand, hand not you — NN.
2. Who is telling you that your eyes are seeing? Your mind.
Here, your mind is seer and eyes are seen — drop the eyes, eyes are not you.
3. Who is telling you this is your mind? Your Intellect.
Here, your intellect is seer and mind is a seen — drop the mind, mind is not you.
4. Who is telling you this is your intellect? Your consciousness.
Here, your Intellect is seer and consciousness is a seen — drop the Intellect, Intellect is not you.
5. Who is telling you this is your consciousness? No one! Hmmm….. Only the consciousness is there! Interesting! Nothing beyond that.
Consciousness stands alone, he is the ultimate seer and seen!
What is this consciousness? (Satchidananda rupam). It is a state of pure bliss. That is, real YOU. The awareness of knowing, one with everyone and everything. Here the seer and the seen become one.
Understand it, realize it, experience it, and live it. Walk the path!
If not go back to step one, and start over! Come back here again. I am just kidding, I know you are smart, maybe not too convinced.
Still not sure? That’s ok. 100% convinced? That’s ok too.
Let’s try another method, just to be sure. Always, better to get a second opinion.
Awake / sleep / deep sleep — Turiya
I am going to quote here from Upanishad and Advaita Vedanta again.
- The first state is, that our body is aware of the world around us. — (Viswa) Waking
- The second state is, when our body is sleeping but our mind is dreaming — (Taijasa) Dream
- The third state is the state of deep sleep, here we are not aware of our body or dreaming. — (Prajna) deep sleep
- The fourth state is called TURIYA — pure consciousness
You are up in the daytime, doing your stuff, sleeping at night, and dreaming sometimes. So, you are aware of these three states of “you”. There is nothing new, I am stating.
Technically, the fourth state I mentioned here, Turiya is not a state at all, it transcends the background of these three common states of consciousness. It is beyond and free from dualistic experience, it is our self-realization. This is real ‘you”. This is your “I”.
You are the ever-pure bliss, you are the Divine. There is no sadness, feeling sorry, or negativity in this state. You are beyond duality. You are a separate identity but connected with every dot in the universe. You are a wave in the ocean of the universe. If there is no wave, there is no ocean, and vice versa. In another word, you are the universe and the universe is in you.
From here, look at the beautiful world. You will see yourself in everything and everything is in you. And, there is nothing but love here.
You are aware now, that you are not your body, mind, or thoughts, you are not your Intellect or your ego. You don’t need to worry about forgiving anyone. You were never hurt, abused, or used. You never did any wrong.
That ego you carry is the one that is hurt and the mind doesn’t like ego getting hurt. Ego is stuck in illusion (Maya) and loves to get pampered. So, ignore your ego, tell your mind to “mind its own business”. Drop your every sad or guilty thought. None, of this, is you.
You are pure bliss consciousness.
The guilt of forgiveness, all that suffering is, just your mind playing a game with you. Train to focus your mind inward and reach to your true self, the pure blissful consciousness, your state of Turiya. This is where the freedom of life is; you are detached from worldly illusion (Maya) here. Now, there are no expectations, just love for everyone. You go beyond the duality.
From here, you have already forgiven everyone, including you. You are free from suffering. Free from all the negative emotions. Free from duality. Here mind, thoughts, ego, and intellect are nothing, and no one is controlling you. Enjoy this state. You did it!!
I can go much deeper than this and explain in detail but then you will be so annoyed reading the most boring blog and won’t forgive me, ever! Then, we both have to start all over again and work on your FORGIVENESS!
