At Mantle. we are excited to move our “Editorials” section of our online magazine onto Medium. In doing so, we will have most, if not all of our writing and reading here on Medium because it is a stellar and easy to use tool for publishing. It’s also a great way for y’all to collaborate and participate in helping each other grow your next big thing.

That is after all our goal: to help YOU Grow a Pearl.

To help you build the next big thing, you need a big toolbox. Hence: Sandbox.

Tucked inside our editorials are all kinds of resources — tools for building businesses, philosophies for living life, podcasts for long drives, or advice from successful (and sometimes unsuccessful) entrepreneurs and creators. We scour these editorials and collect the tools and recommendations from them at www.mantlesandbox.com. So, while all your reading can be done here on Medium, Sandbox (see the link on the menu bar) is still your database and place for tools, signals, media, and gear for entrepreneurs and city dwellers doing cool stuff.

The Bookshelf

You can still find our recommended book list called “The Bookshelf” over at Sandbox. We did, however, bring a version of our bookshelf over to Medium as well. The Bookshelf available on Medium is where you can find book reviews on a selection of books we recommend over on our Sandbox Bookshelf. We recently published a review on “The Revenge of Analog” by David Sax that chronicles the near death of things like records and books.

Spoiler: they’re not dead yet!

Speaking of the death of Analog… we sometimes link our book rec’s over to Amazon. We do that because we know that not everyone is reading actual, physical books — many are reading on their devices or listening on Audible. I have to admit, those are my two favorite ways to consume books. I do buy the ones that I really love in hardback for my bookshelf at home. I may end up purchasing a book twice, but I find it’s a good way to give just a little bit extra to an author for producing something I found to be exceptional. It’s also like giving yourself a trophy for reading a really good book!

While we do link to Amazon, we hope that you will first try and shop with your local bookstore if you are buying actual books — whether you are buying a trophy like me or you are just buying the book to do something radical like read it! Over on Sandbox, you can connect with some of the best booksellers in the country through the “Local” section of that site (who are also City Club partners with Mantle.). In some cases, like with our hometown and nationally renowned bookseller Lemuria, you can connect with them through Sandbox, get discounts if you are a Mantle. City Club member, and they will even ship you your preferred book, much like Amazon, if you ask nicely enough!

The Next Big Thing.

I am also really stoked to announce the inclusion of a new section to Sandbox called The Next Big Thing. “The Next Big Thing” is a new Podcast from Mantle. founders Christopher Lomax (me!) and Rick McKnight. The Next Big Thing is a live interview platform in which Rick and I talk to cool people, doing exceptional things, and explore “the Next Big Thing” from their unique perspective. We talk casually to guests on Mondays over a beer and explore what the future holds and what tools our guests use to help them get there. You can watch tNBT live on Mantle.’s Facebook Page (link) — make sure you are following us there to watch new interviews live.

You can also find tNBT archived on YouTube (link).

“Welcome to any asshole can make a podcast.”

As I said in the Preface episode of tNBT: “Welcome to any asshole can make a podcast.” Assholes or not, we already had two really great guests on the pod and those Chapters are up here on Medium, Facebook and YouTube. I will be connecting with guests around my passion in technology and startups, while Rick will be exploring the arena of health, fitness and living well. We have some other really great interviews scheduled and coming up so make sure to follow Sandbox here on Medium and The Next Big Thing over on Twitter to check out the lineup and to catch those interviews live.

Please Contribute!

Again, we can’t wait to share Sandbox, our toolbox, with y’all — the best entrepreneurs and city dwellers in cities everywhere. We hope that some of this content will help you grow your life’s work, your “pearl” as we call it around these parts. Really, if you think that you have insight on how to build the next big thing or just how to live better and in harmony with others in the city, shoot us a line!

We look forward to hearing from everyone, whether writers, readers, or just someone passing through!

Thanks y’all, good night, and good luck! [Thanks y’all, good luck, and grow a pearl!]
