The first Builders’ Challenge paved the way for new opportunities for creators to earn on the platform.

We started the Builders’ Challenge with the goal of supporting our creators by empowering them to build the metaverse. We set forth a three-pronged call to action: publish, engage, and earn. Our creators did just that. In just ten weeks, creators unleashed their creativity and engaged audiences as we’ve never seen before (and earned a whole lot of SAND while doing it).The newly introduced Engagement Pool rewarded Experiences with the most playtime by offering an attractive prize pool of up to 1,000,000 SAND, plus a 500K SAND bonus pool exclusively for the top ten Creators. We’ve been truly inspired by our community’s reaction to this exciting competition.

Our Biggest Creator Event So Far

Thanks to our talented builder community, the Builders’ Challenge was bigger than we ever could have imagined. We’ve seen an increase of 300+ experiences since the launch of the event on February 12th, for a total of 684 experiences that were eligible for the challenge, crafted by 404 unique creators, both new and existing. Some creators even published multiple experiences on The Sandbox Map, thus affording them multiple instances to earn and test various game concepts to see which performed best.

Within the Builders Challenge, we introduced the “Engagement Pool,” which set out to reward experiences with the most playtime by offering an attractive prize pool of up to 1,000,000 SAND, plus a 500K SAND bonus pool exclusively for the top ten Creators.

With the completion of the campaign, we are thrilled to announce that the many members of our creator community were able to earn SAND from the engagement of their experiences. Our top creator earned over 400,000 SAND. Combined, our top ten creators earned over 1.1 million SAND. These represent the tangible rewards earned by simply creating and engaging on The Sandbox.

Throughout the ten-week campaign, new and existing experiences published to The Sandbox Map garnered traffic from players worldwide, totaling more than 102,000 visits across all experiences and 30,000 hours of playtime. This is in part due to the ingenuity of creators launching experiences across different game modes and genres. Through self-promotion of their experiences, we saw an uptick in player traffic to The Sandbox and engagement within their communities. Top performing game types included factory, platformers, adventure, and parkour experiences. The breadth and depth of creations submitted and engaged with during the Builders’ Challenge speaks to both our creators’ ingenuity and the diversity of our players’ appetites.

What’s Next for the Builders’ Challenge?

The Sandbox is committed to empowering creators worldwide to reach their fullest potential and bring their imaginations to life. The Builders’ Challenge is just one of the ways we are working to foster an ecosystem that supports our creators and allows them to find success on the platform.

We’re happy to announce that the Builders’ Challenge will be coming back this summer with new mechanics. All creators are welcome to join and publish their experiences. Special reward bonuses will be given to new experiences that weren’t in the first edition of the Builders’ Challenge. Additionally, bonuses will also be awarded to experience tagged with at least one of the following game type tags: survival, tower defense, resource management, horror, and backroom. Make sure to update your Game Maker before June so you can create the best experience possible by utilizing all of the new tools and features.

Thanks again to our creators for contributing to this significant milestone in The Sandbox and Web3!
