The SAND Play Game Jam

The Sandbox is happy to announce its next slam-dunking game design contest — the SAND Play Game Jam.

This Game Jam is brought to you by a partnership between The Sandbox and Round21.

Round21 aims to elevate the sense, originality and creative expression that is found in every person, starting with what is most core to their identity — their sport. Learn more about Round21 by clicking here.

The SAND Play Game Jam

Using The Sandbox’s Game Maker software, you will need to create a sports-related experience, whether it is based on a real sport — modern or past — or something straight out of your creative imagination.

It is also up to you whether the player participates in the sport. For example, you could create a game where the player needs to compete against another team in a sport, a game where the player needs to help manage a sporting event, an educational diorama where the player can learn about a historic sport, and so on.

It is up to you — as long as it follows the sporty theme! Use your creativity to recreate or even reimagine sports in the metaverse. The ball is in your court.

The Prizes

The prize pool consists of a total of 50,000 SAND split the following ways.

  • 1st place: 20,000 SAND.
  • 2nd place: 10,000 SAND.
  • 3rd place: 6,000 SAND.
  • 4th to 10th place: 2,000 SAND each.

The Rules

Let’s be sporting about this, please observe these rules.

  • Your entry must be designed in the Game Maker software.
  • Your entry must be centred around the theme of sports.
  • Your entry must have some playability.
  • Your entry must be unique and not a direct copy of any existing sporting games (similarities are fine, exact copies are not!)
  • Spamming the gallery with a number of low quality experiences just to try and fit into the 4th-10th places may result in all your entries being disqualified.
  • The judging will be done externally by a panel of The Sandbox’s staff and Round21’s team.
  • Not completing the submission steps correctly (see below) may result in your entry being ineligible.

Submitting Your Entry

We will be using the Game Maker “Gallery” feature as a form for submissions. You MUST upload your game to the gallery following the GIF tutorial below and using the title: “SAND PLAY GAME JAM — Game Title”

You MUST also submit your game to the following form link

WARNING! If you submit your entry to the Game Jam gallery but do not submit it to the form linked above (or vice versa), your entry will not be eligible!
Slow down — check everything! Sometimes slow and steady wins the race.
