The Sandbox’s LAND NFT Charity Auction Raises 700,000 SAND In Support of UNICEF’s Crypto Fund

We, at Animoca Brands and The Sandbox, greatly appreciate all the support from our community in achieving our next crucial milestone — successfully completing the LAND NFT Charity Auction and pushing NFTs one step closer to wider global adoption.

The Sandbox’s LAND NFT Charity Auction Raises 700,000 SAND

The Sandbox launched its first virtual LAND NFT Charity Auction on the 18th of December at 1 PM GMT. Having lasted three days until December 21st at 1 PM GMT, the LAND NFT auction, held in partnership with OpenSea, stirred quite an interest in the crypto community.

In support of UNICEF, we’ve auctioned the centrally located 12x12 Estate that comprises 144 LANDs from our limited reserve map. Considering the uniqueness of the offered opportunity to acquire a highly-demanded location in the center of The Sandbox’s Metaverse, we’ve seen an outpouring of bids starting at 200 SAND.

Over the course of the next few days, the auction participants had the chance to submit their bids via the OpenSea landing page. As a result, the LAND NFT Auction saw a great deal of support, with the highest and winning bid standing at 700,000 SAND tokens (~$34,500 at the time of writing).

The completed auction is seen as the first time that UNICEF has utilized blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens for the purpose of charity fundraising. This marks a huge milestone for The Sandbox of successful integration of the NFT technology for the facilitation and implementation of the transparent blockchain application for a social welfare organization on a global scale.

All proceeds of the LAND NFT auction will be donated to support the UNICEF’s Crypto Fund, contributing to funding open source technology benefiting children and young people around the world.

The Sandbox Achieved a New LAND Valuation at 6.4x

Having auctioned for 700,000 SAND, the central 12x12 piece of Estate (L) at the Sandbox has marked a new LAND valuation at 6.46x.

What is LAND?

A LAND is a digital piece of real estate in The Sandbox metaverse that players can buy to build experiences on top of. Each LAND is a unique (non-fungible) token lying on the public Ethereum blockchain (ERC-721). LAND ownership allows users to:

Secure desirable locations from the finite amount of LAND in The Sandbox
Participate in gameplay in The Sandbox
Host games or experiences on their LAND
Earn SAND by hosting gameplay or renting the LAND
Organize contests and events on their LAND
Participate in Metaverse Governance

Why Are LANDs Valuable?

With Binance purchasing LANDs, key partnerships like with Square Enix, and popular IPs like Carebears and The Smurfs joining The Sandbox Metaverse, it is not surprising that the growing demand from the major players and crypto enthusiasts alike provides a solid boost to the price of LANDs.
