Global/Local mode tweaks

Toward the objective of providing the necessary tools to create dynamic and fluid animations, this latest feature will help ensure a fluent customization of the models that make up a skeleton. Local mode isolates the selected model, so that it’s the only one that will move, rotate, or escalate.

Position, Rotate, and Scale inputs

One of the latest features to enhance the experience of artists in the new version of our VoxEdit 3D voxel modeling and editing tool is the addition of Position, Rotation, and Scale inputs, which will facilitate the creation of animations within the program. This key feature will improve how fluid and dynamic animations will be within the editor, thus speeding up and facilitating the asset customization process.

Voxel Animation Format

One limitation of our voxel editor was the format that assets could be exported — VXM for voxel models and VXR for animations and rigged models. Now, by separating the rig (in Voxel Rig format) from the animation data we are ensuring a better workflow and a more organized way for creators to keep track of their work. Among other new features that are being worked on, this new format will support having different animations within a rig.

Animation Selector Menu

Supporting the creation of new formats for animations and rigs, this new feature adds a menu that displays the different animations that a rigged model has. It also offers the option to create new animations if none have yet been created. This addition to our editor will provide an accessible way to create and customize animations. The ability to duplicate an animation that is being worked on is equally important to the other new formats, menus, and features added to the editor. This new development will allow creators to improve their creations by duplicating any animation of a rigged model created within the editor.

Voxel Compressed Format

Along with the new format for animations and rig of the editor, this new compressed format allows compressing and packaging assets for the Marketplace and The Sandbox Game. This format will contain the models, rigs, thumbnails, and animations.

Multiple Keyframes Stretch

This feature will provide an easy way to select multiple frames from one or more bones to accelerate or slow down any animations. This provides an easy way to test and customize animations without the need to modify them frame by frame.

Thumbnail View

One of the new editor features is the ability to select a thumbnail of various angles you want to display before your asset is exported to the Marketplace. In the future, you’ll be able to change the thumbnail through advanced options before publishing it.

Marketplace exporter

The latest addition to VoxEdit is still being developed and thus isn’t available on this new version — but will allow assets and animations created within the editor to be exported directly to the Marketplace. Although this first version of the marketplace will remain off chain until the release of the blockchain version, artists will be able to create an account to upload their assets.

Currently, only artists who joined us through the creator fund can upload assets, but you can apply here: https://fund.sandbox.game/
