My First Experience with Nintendo Switch was a Blast!
Might need to purchase one for us as well…
The story goes that my father brought me an NES as a gift when I was born.
In reality, he must have just used it as an excuse to buy one for himself.
However, 25 years later, I have so far only owned Nintendo’s consoles — years ago, we bought the Wii with my brother and for this Christmas, I bought myself the SNES Classic. As you can see, I’ve not been too much of a gamer myself.
So before buying the NES Classic, I also checked out other consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One. All of them seemed to have their pros and cons. But I decided to go with SNES Classic as it was a cheaper way to see whether I still enjoy console games.
A few months later, I see that for me a console only makes sense as a party device. Yes, there have been some occasions when I turned SNES Classic’s power on without having someone over at our place. Yet in most cases, I’ve stuck to just watching some series when at home alone or with Lele and in a chill mode.
That said, I really love to play tabletop games — card games, strategy games and even simple luck-based dice games. Not always for their mechanics but because I enjoy a good old board game night with some friends around the table.
Knowing all this, it seems that it does not make sense for me to own a console. Unless I can use it as a party device. So this kind of rules out professional gaming devices such as the PS4 and Xbox One. However, Nintendo Switch is different.
Yes, Switch has all the capabilities of a great gaming device — or so I have heard. But based on my short experience, it also has more.
My quick Nintendo Switch experience.
Yesterday, we were celebrating Estonia’s 101st birthday with a sauna party that was followed up with a feast and playing some games.
First up, we played some Super Mario Kart on the SNES. Winning some and losing many more races…
But then our new Brazillian friends took out their Switch and we played some Super Smash Bros, followed by Super Mario Party.
And the experience was awesome!
I especially loved playing Super Mario Party because it is basically a multi-levelled board game that four of us could play at the same time. The fact that it has tens of minigames inside the big game is what I enjoyed the most.
That said, I also like that one only needs to buy one extra set of Switch’s special remotes to give up to four people a chance to start enjoying the experience. An investment that’s much smaller than for other consoles.
Later I discovered that The Nintendo Switch Is Quietly Becoming the Best Platform for Board Games. With our favourite tabletop games such as Catan and Munchkin soon to be released on the platform.
In short, if you love playing board games then Switch seems to be something for you. So it seems I now know what my soon to be born daughter’s birth gift will be…
