The opposition in Indian politics — nowadays infamously known as “The Mahagathbandhan” — is singing in chorus while demanding evidence of the airstrikes conducted by the Indian Airforce post the Pulwama terror suicide bomb attack in which 40+ of Indian Army soldiers lost their lives.

A trait which is commonly witnessed between the opposition parties is that when one leader from Congress shouts foul every party in the Mahagathbandhan follows suit. The most recent examples being the demanding of proof for the recent airstrikes.

The Mahagathbandhan is spearheaded by the Congress party and the captain of this team is Mr. Rahul Gandhi. For a brief period, a contention for leadership was seen from Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party and Tejaswi Yadav of RJD. But this seems to have been hushed up recently and Rahul now speaks for the whole lot.

All these parties have a massive reach when it comes to party workers across the country. The RJD alone in Bihar has approximately 70,000 plus party workers or (Karyakartas). And the Congress party has millions over the country. These party workers, be it from any party, take their leaders’ statements very seriously and are often known to believe in them with near blind faith.

When parties in the Mahagathbandhan in unity ask for proof of military operations from the Army and Indian Airforce, it affects the morale of our troops. Post Uri surgical strikes, leaders from the opposition dropped to a whole new low. Rahul Gandhi had alleged

“You are hiding behind the blood of the soldiers … aap khoon ki dalali kar rahe ho … they [the soldiers] have done their job, you do yours.” -(Rahul Gandhi after Uri surgical strikes)

While Arvind Kejriwal infamously said, “We need proof of the surgical strikes from our PM”.

These questions asked by leaders of leading political parties cause a ripple effect on their party workers also spreading this same question around the country. At parties, rallies, TV debates, etc everybody sings the same song as their leaders.

In a time where the country still hasn’t gotten over the loss of its soldiers who were martyred in an unprovoked attack, opposition leaders are seen to question IAF’s attempts to avenge the death of their fallen comrades from CRPF.

Wing Commander Abhinandan is now a household name for his act of bravery, but what about those involved in the surgical strikes? Those involved in the recent IAF conducted Balakot airstrikes? When these politicians question the actions of soldiers, what goes through their minds?

These very soldiers also go to the same parties and rallies as the party workers of the opposition's leaders, when they hear even the common man questioning their bravado what is the value of their sacrifice reduced to?

When ex-US President Barrack Obama declared the death of Osama Bin Laden not one American leader in the opposition questioned it as it was a moment of national pride and not the time for petty politics.

When will Indian leaders and Indians who follow those leaders learn to not politicize situations of this nature where national sentiments are involved.

Before closing off, I leave you with a few statements by political leaders of the opposition which were recently given out to the press post the IAF air strikes:

1. Digvijay Singh

“Prime Minister, some ministers of your government say 300 terrorists killed, BJP president says 250 are killed, Yogi Adityanath says 400 people were killed and your minister SS Ahluwalia says that no one died. And you are silent about this issue. The country wants to know who is a liar in this.”

2. Mamata Banerjee

“I have a doubt. How they (Pakistan) have got this encouragement when the elections are round the corner? I don't know….why after Parliament is over. I am in doubt…. why have not we taken any action against Pakistan in the last five years.”

Modi in Ahemadabad asked her which elections were happening when Uri took place. Mamata is yet to answer.

3. Kapil Sibal

“Your (BJP) ministers are saying ‘300 people have been killed’, ‘400 people have been killed’. Where did they get this information from or is it with a particular thought in mind that the Lok Sabha elections are around the corner, so they have to say that ‘x’ number of people have been killed?”

And last but definitely not the least, this man shows his unpatriotic side once again. Hasn’t learned a lesson even after getting kicked out of Kapil Sharma’s show.

4. Navjyot Singh Sidhu

“What was the purpose then? Were you uprooting terrorists or trees? Was it an election gimmick? Deceit possesses our land in guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”
