As the country slowly emerged from the festivities of Mahashivratri, a lot of devotees around the world had asked Lord Shiva for one thing. The safe return of Wing Commander Abhinandan who a few days back had landed in enemies territory after shooting down a Pakistani F16 from a MiG21.

During this whole ordeal, the Indian media was criticized from both sides of the border accusing it of creating war hysteria. While some channels even gave out the address and details of Wing Commander Abhinandan’s family and it’s history.

We at Sandesa take our National interest very seriously and decided to look into the biased reporting that certain newspapers and channels do in times when national security is at risk so that readers and viewers make a much more informed opinion when consuming news from these sources.

Listed below are the newspapers, news channels and the ideologies towards which they’re tilted.

Newspapers

1. The Tribune — PRO Congress ideology.

It has always been a centrist newspaper covering the regions of North India such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and J&K. It’s been known to have a pro-congress attitude when it comes to choosing which news to print on the front page and which news to hide in small columns. It is rumored that Manmohan Singh only reads The Tribune and so doesn’t know what all is wrong with the government.

2. The Pioneer — Right Wing

It is the second oldest English newspaper to be printed in India. It has always shown right-wing nationalist ideology. The Pioneer has focused on pro-right movements emerging out of the urban middle classes. Though it’s readership is maintained for overall balanced coverage and news reporting.

3. The Statesman.

It has always been a left wing, anti-establishment newspaper. The only saving grace is that it has never pretended to be anything other than that. It has long been the newspaper of the left wing communists out of Kolkata.

4. The Hindu

It has been open about its ideologies and doesn’t shy away from being declared an organized left newspaper. It is especially a favorite amongst the civil service aspirants which makes it more dangerous as it tries to inflict a left ideology on its readers and our IAS, IPS officers of tomorrow are majority readers of this circulation.

5. Hindustan Times

This newspaper is probably the worst case of partisan media. It can easily be mistaken for a Congress published newspaper as it has become nothing but a mouthpiece for Congress propaganda.

NEWS CHANNELS

Support tilted towards Congress/Left :

1. NDTV

Ravish Kumar, Pranoy Roy have always been anti-Modi and been biasedly critical of Modi. They are tilted towards the left wing ideology. NDTV ’s administration also has deep Congress and CPM roots.

Rajdeep Sardesai supports the AAP and Congress ideology. He is also more critical about Modi.

3. Aaj Tak — Franchise of India Today

4. News 24 (Rajeev Shukla-Congress leader owned)

Channels tilted towards the Right.

1. Republic News: (Owned by Arnab Goswami) After breaking away from Times Now and becoming a national sensation with his question “The Nation wants to Know” Arnab has started two channels RepublicTv(English) and Republic Bharat(Hindi) which is extreme right Wing but also grills his Right Wing guests on his news debates.
